About this event

David Carlson. "THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE SLAVE TRADE IN VIRGINIA: 1778–1830."

My research examines the transformation from the transatlantic to the transcontinental slave trade in Virginia in the late colonial and early national period and the social, political, and economic factors that drove that transformation. This presentation focuses on British influences on the growth of the transcontinental slave trade in the early nineteenth century, particularly British investment in the American South.

Hadas Elber-Aviram. "FROM KNIGHTSBRIDGE TO NIGHT'S BRIDGE: The influence of The Napoleon of Notting Hill on Neverwhere and 'The Door in the Wall.'"

This paper examines the influence of 19th and early 20th century writer G. K. Chesterton's novel The Napoleon of Notting Hill on Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere and H. G. Wells's 'The Door in the Wall'.

Kindly presented in conjunction with the London Global Gateway's inaugural G.K. Chesterton Conference.
